Many trainees think about research towards the end of clinical training, but at that stage, it may be too late to get the most from the limited opportunities that remain. Ideally, trainees should consider research early in their career. For some, a career in academic paediatrics may be attractive, in which case following the clinical academic pathway as outlined by the National Institutes of Health Research may be appropriate. For others, research may be part of a wider clinical training. This article discusses a variety of research opportunities available to trainees, and offers advice on a career in academic paediatrics.  相似文献

目的 了解护理专业学生学业复原力及自我控制的现状,探讨两者之间的相关性,为解决护理专业学生心理和行为问题提供了理论依据,以提高护理学生的学业复原力与自制力水平。 方法 采用学业复原力量表和自我控制量表通过网络调查和现场派发形式对广州市4所高校的286名护理专业本科学生进行调查。 结果 护理专业学生学业复原力得分为(47.65±8.45)分,自我控制总分为(58.33±9.68)分,两者呈正相关,工作或学习表现及抵制诱惑是学业复原力的影响因素(F=40.735,R2=0.224)。 结论 护理专业学生的学业复原力和自我控制水平均处于中等水平,应针对具体因素提高学业复原力和自我控制水平,改善护生的心理健康状态。  相似文献

AimThe aim of the study was to describe the characteristics of the Bachelor’s thesis of fourth-year nursing students at a Spanish public university, the criteria that students used to choose a topic and students’ degree of satisfaction after completing the Bachelor’s thesis.DesignQuantitative study.MethodsWe examined 420 Bachelor’s theses carried out from 2013 to 2018 and conducted an online survey among fourth-year students in the 2017–18 and 2018–19 academic years (81 completed questionnaires).ResultsThe Bachelor’s thesis took the form of a research proposal. The most frequent proposal type was a qualitative hospital-based study whose objective was to understand the experiences of adult or adolescent patients, close family members, or nurses. Students chose topics for personal reasons. Most participants reported feeling satisfied with the knowledge and skills acquired.ConclusionsStudents completing a Bachelor’s thesis in the form of a research proposal have the potential to transfer their research skills to their nursing practice.  相似文献

Lumbar punctures are common bedside procedures. Complications are strongly associated with provider skill. Best practices for procedural training have been well established in the literature, although the practicality of their implementation is often a perceived barrier. Best practices in bedside procedural training were used in a mastery-based lumbar punctures training program for advanced practice providers with no previous lumbar puncture experience at a large academic medical center. After a 3-day training program, all 9 participants demonstrated mastery through evaluation with the Lumbar Puncture Assessment Tool and submitted for independent privileges. Implementing best practices for procedure training is practical, effective, and efficient.  相似文献

BACKGROUND

Academic achievement is influenced by factors at the student, school, and community levels. We estimated the effect of cardiorespiratory fitness performance on academic performance at the school level in Georgia elementary schools and examined effect modification by sociodemographic factors.

METHODS

This study is a repeat cross‐sectional analysis of Georgia elementary schools between 2011 and 2014 (approximately 1138 schools per year). Multivariable beta regression estimated the effect of the proportion of 4th and 5th graders meeting cardiorespiratory fitness standards on the proportion of 5th graders passing standardized tests for Reading, English and Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies and considered potential interaction by school‐level socioeconomic status (SES), racial composition, and urbanity.

RESULTS

There was a 0.15 higher estimated odds (OR: 1.15 (1.09, 1.22)) of passing the mathematics standardized test for every 10‐percentage‐point increase in school‐level cardiorespiratory fitness among high‐SES schools and 0.04 higher odds (OR: 1.04 (1.02, 1.05)) for low‐SES schools. This pattern was similar for other academic subjects. No effect modification by racial composition or urbanity was observed for any academic subject.

CONCLUSIONS

Promoting physical fitness may be effective in improving academic performance among high‐SES schools, but additional strategies may be needed among lower‐SES schools.
